Microsoft Virtual Earth Web Part

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This Virtual Earth web part gives your end users the ability to plot points on a map. Your end users can use this tool to show office locations, recommended eateries, recommended hotels, and many more compelling use cases. View the installation steps for a general guideline on how to deploy the web part solution file.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES

The map web part reads the addresses out of a SharePoint list. With that, configuration and adding new pin points is very easy and intuitive. Also, you get extra items in the list like an associated URL and phone and fax numbers. These will be rendered on within the map web part when end users hover over a pin point.

The map web part comes with two views, the address view and the map view. This gives you the ability to render both the addresses and the map itself if you don't want to make your end users have to hover over each pin point to get the address.

Additionally, even though the map web part reads it addresses from a SharePoint list, your end users won't have to worry about building the list. When you first drop the web part on the page, the part shows a link to create the dependant list. When clicked, the web part will programmatically provision the list it needs. Thereafter, the user will be redirected to that list where they can start adding addresses.

You can also specify a custom width and height of the map.
