Update to Polling Web Part: 1 Response / User

Tags: Freeware Releases

My polling web part now supports allowing for only 1 response per user. Thanks to Jason Mitchell (elektronisch) for providing the enhancement!

When you respond to a poll, a cookie is saved that keeps record of your response to that particular question. Also, the "Show Question" link has been removed because you can't respond again so there's no point in going back to the form.

Also, after you've replied to the question and you come back to the site at a later date, rather than seeing the question again, you're presented with the results automatically.

Thanks again to Jason for this enhancement – and for others who've downloaded my source, let me know if you have made any other neat enhancements that we could publish (I'll certainly give credit where it's due).

Check out Version 1.2 on codeplex to download this latest release of my web part.

Does this webpart work with SharePoint 2003?

The web part was originally construction on the 2003 platform, so it should. However, you may need to change its inheritance from an ASP.NET web part, to a SharePoint web part (Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.WebPart). Other than that - I wouldn't think you'd need to worry about anything else.

Here is what my IT support is telling me. The wss file we have is built for MOSS 2007 and is functional in that environment. However, the current build does not currently function in SP 2003, and will not without changes to the code and config file. These changes would need to be

It seems that the cookie does'nt work for me. Is there something special to configure ?

Can we maybe implement this functionality with something different than a cookie? A separate list with all polls and usernames maybe? A few in our department are tech-savy and made a mess of the recent polls since they were naturally the only ones knowing how to delete their cookies...
